Join this workshop for a relaxing exploration of the Green Man through art. By the end of the day, you should have your own Green Man painting to take home.
Who is the Green Man?
The Green Man has appeared across time and cultures – a man’s face sprouting vines and leaves. His speech is the green force of nature. He has no story. He appears without explanation or texts in the early medieval churches. The present may be especially relevant for bringing the Green Man to our consciousness as humanity stands on the threshold of choice as to how much we honour the earth collectively and individually. His tendrils and faces pushed up in several places around Oxford.
What’s in the workshop?
In this workshop we will reach out creatively to the spirit of the Green Man. It will be a fun exploration of mixed media art using a variety of methods from watercolour pencils, pens, crayons, inks, paints and collage. I hope this workshop will make you feel relaxed, engaged with your art practice, and provide an escape from daily stresses, as well as providing a means to connect with and honour nature. This workshop offers an opportunity to open up to new Green Man images to sprout through us into the world, giving this ancient symbol new life.
Who’s it for?
This is a fun and whimsical art workshop and is suitable for adults with or without art experience. I’ll provide art guidance on creating a Green Man face, and introduce art materials and ways to play and experiment with them.
